About TLP Ministries
Our ministry started with a man standing in an execution line, a miracle that lifted him out of war, and a call from God to go back to the country he fled. That was 1999. Almost three decades years later, TLP is still raising children who were left with nothing and watching them become doctors, nurses, teachers, and community leaders.
From War to Hope: The Story of TLP
Our History
Our founder, John Kpewoan, lived through Liberia's civil war. At one point he stood in a line for execution, waiting his turn. A man walked up to him out of the crowd, asked what he was doing there, and led him out through the bush into safety. Then the man disappeared. John is convinced it was an angel.
He escaped to South Africa and eventually came to Canada as a refugee, where he became a citizen. But God was not finished with Liberia. John felt the call to go back to the country that had nearly taken his life, this time to bring life to its most vulnerable children.
In 1999, The Lord's Prayer Outreach Association was born. John started finding children abandoned on the streets, kids whose families had been killed in the war or who were simply too poor to feed another mouth. Some were hiding under bushes. Others had been left with no one.
TLP took them in. Not to find them another family, but to be their family. To feed them, clothe them, educate them, and raise them to know Jesus.
Property was purchased. Buildings went up. A school and a church were added. The ministry grew.
Today, Liberia has been at peace for more than twenty years, but the need has not ended. In 2025, the Liberian government entrusted TLP with children rescued from human trafficking, cases so severe that the courts determined they could not safely return to their families. Some of those families sold their own children out of desperation. TLP said yes.
And the beautiful part? The older children who grew up in TLP are now adults. They are the doctors, the nurses, the counselors, and the leaders running the work in Liberia today. They are giving back to the family that raised them.

We believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, not just a historical figure but the risen Son of God who is exactly who He claimed to be. Everything we do flows from that truth. We are not a perfect organization run by perfect people. We are a group of believers trying to be like Jesus, stumbling forward in faith, and trusting God to do what only He can do.

Our administrative costs are kept intentionally low. The Canadian board members are all volunteers. No one takes a salary from donations on this side of the work. Your gift goes where it is meant to go: to the children.
We are a registered Canadian charity and we file annually with the Canada Revenue Agency. Our financial records are open and we welcome questions from anyone who supports this ministry.
